Winter in Northern New Mexico: A Still Life on Film

Fine art film photography in Taos & Santa Fe, New Mexico

There are places that seem made for film.
Not because they’re trendy or loud—but because they are quiet, textured, and honest.
Places where light falls with purpose, and stillness says more than movement.
That’s how I remember Santa Fe and Taos in the winter.

In 2019, I traveled through Northern New Mexico with my film cameras. No agenda. Just a desire to photograph the kind of moments that don’t need to be staged.

This is what I saw.
This is what I felt.
A still life in motion, captured on 35mm and medium format film.

Santa Fe — For the Cultured Eye

As an artistic photographer Santa Fe, I found endless inspiration in its winter simplicity.
The scent of piñon in the air. The adobe walls, warm even in cold weather.
Every corner of this city is designed by restraint—timeless, refined, and deeply intentional.

From the earth-toned facades of Canyon Road to the quiet hum of the Cathedral Basilica at dusk, Santa Fe reveals itself slowly.
I wandered before the city woke.
Shot film while the streets still held onto shadows.
And let the golden New Mexico light do most of the storytelling.

This is the kind of place where minimalist beauty thrives.
Perfect for fine art portraits, creative brand editorials, or couples who want their story told in a way that feels real.

Taos — Where Time Stands Still

A short drive north, Taos welcomes you with open land and even more open sky.
Here, everything sharpens: the air, the lines, the silence.

As a film photographer in Taos, New Mexico, I let the elements lead the way.
Snow covered the roads and rooftops like a soft veil.
I followed it to the Pueblo, where time moves slowly and respectfully.
I didn’t pose anything. I didn’t interrupt.
I waited for the moment to settle—and then I captured it.

Taos is not about spectacle.
It’s about presence.
About color in its purest form—washed-out fences, indigo shadows, clay walls touched by snowlight.

Whether for a destination engagement session, wedding, or simply creative travel work, Taos offers the kind of raw beauty that film understands best.

And a note

If you’re drawn to minimalism.
If you value feeling over trend.
If your idea of beauty is more Georgia O’Keeffe than Pinterest—
then this part of the world will speak to you.

I photograph not to impress, but to preserve.
And in Northern New Mexico, in the silence of winter, I found something worth remembering.
